Utah contractor consulting · Uintah Basin & statewide

You know how to build.
We handle everything else.

Licensing, bidding, and the business side of running a construction company — handled by someone who has actually held the license, carried the bond, and signed the contracts. Your success is our business.

What we do

Three places a good contractor loses money that have nothing to do with the work.

Most small construction companies in Utah don't fail because the framing was bad. They fail on paperwork, on a bid that was $18,000 light, or on a phone that stopped ringing in February. Those are the three things we fix.

Licensing & compliance

Get licensed, stay licensed, stay paid.

From a first DOPL application to a renewal you forgot was coming, we run the paperwork so a filing deadline never costs you a job or a lien right.

  • New license applications — B100, R100, E100 and S‑class specialties, including the qualifier experience packet
  • Bond and insurance placement — the $50,000 surety bond and $1M/$3M general liability DOPL wants on file
  • Renewals and CE tracking — six hours per cycle, filed before November 30 of odd years
  • State Construction Registry filings — preliminary notices inside the 20‑day window, notices of completion, lien prep
  • Entity and DBA setup — LLC formation, EIN, registered agent, workers' comp coverage or exemption
Estimating & bidding

Bids that win and still make money.

We do the takeoff, price it against real local costs, and hand you a proposal a homeowner can say yes to without a two-week think.

  • Quantity takeoffs from plans, sketches, or a walkthrough — new builds, additions, and remodels
  • Line‑item estimates built on Basin‑area subcontractor and material pricing, not a national average
  • Overhead and margin review — what your number actually has to be to cover the truck, the insurance, and a real paycheck
  • Client‑facing proposals and allowance schedules that hold up when the change orders start
  • Bid‑to‑close support — presenting the number, handling the pushback, and knowing when to walk
Coaching & marketing

A business, not just a busy schedule.

Systems, pricing, and lead flow, so the work comes in steady instead of arriving all at once in June and vanishing in January.

  • Pricing and profitability coaching — job costing, break‑even, and what to stop taking
  • Systems and SOPs for scheduling, change orders, draws, and subcontractor agreements
  • Brand and collateral — logo, truck and yard signage, flyers, and a website that closes
  • Lead generation — Google Business Profile, local search, referral programs, and direct mail that gets answered
  • Hiring and crew structure — first employee, first foreman, first office person

Who we help

Built for the one‑truck outfit and the shop that just outgrew the kitchen table.

The tradesman going out on his own

Ten years swinging a hammer for somebody else, and no idea what a qualifier packet or a surety bond is. We get you licensed and priced correctly before the first job, not after the first bad one.

The contractor stuck at capacity

Booked solid and still broke. Usually that's a pricing problem or an overhead problem, and both show up in the numbers within an afternoon.

The specialty sub going general

Moving from an S‑class to a B100 or R100 changes your exposure, your insurance, and your contracts. We map that transition before you sign anything.

The shop that needs a bid desk

You'd rather be on site than at a desk until midnight doing takeoffs. Send us the plans; we send back a number and a proposal.

How it works

Four steps, no retainer to find out if we're a fit.

01
Free · 30 minutes

The call

You tell us what's actually going on — the license you can't get, the bid you're not sure about, the month that didn't cover payroll. We tell you straight whether we can help.

02
Within a week

The look under the hood

We review what exists: license status, insurance and bond, last few jobs and what they actually netted, current pricing, and how work is coming in the door.

03
Flat fee or monthly

The plan and the price

You get a written scope with a fixed number on it. One‑time projects like a license application or a single estimate are flat‑fee. Ongoing support is monthly and cancellable.

04
Ongoing

We do the work

Filings get filed, bids get built, deadlines get tracked. You get a call back the same day, not a ticket number.

About

We're contractors who ended up good at the office side.

Contractor Support Services was started by Justin, who also runs Basin Design Center and Basin New Home in Utah's Uintah Basin. Everything we advise on is something we do in our own construction business every week — the DOPL filings, the bond renewals, the takeoffs, the proposals, the marketing that keeps the calendar full.

That's the whole reason this exists. Most consultants have never carried a license or eaten a bad change order. We have. So the advice you get is what we would do with our own money, on our own jobs, in this market.

We work with contractors across Utah, and we know the Basin market in particular — who the subs are, what materials actually land for, and how long the county takes.
